Personal Inbox Assistant

A personal Gmail assistant that helps its owner review routine promotional email in a separate Auto-Trash label.

This application is intended only for its owner's Gmail account. It is not a public email service and offers no public registration or account access.

What it does

After the owner authorizes and activates it, the assistant checks new Inbox arrivals. Clear matches for five approved categories can be moved out of the Inbox, labeled Auto-Trash, and marked as read: generic marketing, general newsletters, routine surveys, app engagement reminders, and event advertisements. Existing Inbox mail is preserved during activation.

Changes apply to individual messages, preserve unrelated labels, and are verified and recorded locally. Auto-Trash is a custom label. The application never uses Gmail's actual Trash or permanently deletes mail.

Owner decisions come first

Attachment-bearing messages and protected communications stay untouched. Protections include human conversations, court-domain mail, church or court newsletters, purchase and account updates, security and banking notices, appointments, specific event changes, and voicemail. Job recommendations and photo-memory reminders are outside the approved categories. Uncertain messages receive no Gmail changes.

If the owner returns a moved message to the Inbox, that individual message is permanently excluded from future automatic processing. Local controls provide pause, review, and a guarded undo command.

How information is processed

The program runs on the owner's computer in a private virtual machine. Local checks inspect message metadata and MIME structure first. With the owner's approval, eligible messages' selected headers and bounded, sanitized plain text are sent to the OpenAI API for classification. Attachments and Gmail credentials are not sent to the model.

The classifier has no tools and cannot change application rules. Application code validates its answer before permitting a Gmail change. Requests use store:false; this does not mean zero retention, and the provider's data-handling policies still apply.

Gmail permission

The application requests gmail.modify to read messages and make the approved label changes. That Google permission is broader than this application's actions and includes capabilities such as sending mail. The application does not send, reply, forward, unsubscribe, change mailbox filters, or delete messages. The owner can revoke access through Google Account settings.
